Prof. Frank Fitzek holds the Chair of Communication Networks at the Dresden University of Technology. His pioneering research focuses on 5G and 6G communication networks, post-Shannon communication, data transmission, and human-machine interaction, including the metaverse, robotics, and the tactile internet.

Within the QUARKS project, Professor Fitzek serves as a Principal Investigator, leveraging his expertise in next-generation network architectures to drive the project’s core objectives.

He has built a distinguished international career, earning his diploma from RWTH Aachen University in Germany in 1997 and his Ph.D. from the Technical University of Berlin in Germany in 2002. He then became an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ferrara in Italy before joining Aalborg University in Denmark in 2003, where he was later appointed as a full Professor.

As a leading figure in the scientific community, he holds key leadership roles in several prominent initiatives. Since 2019, he has been a speaker for the CeTI cluster of excellence. He also co-coordinates the 5G Lab Germany initiative, launched in 2014, and serves as director of the Center for Explainable and Efficient AI Technologies, a collaborative AI research center founded in 2019 by the Dresden University of Technolgy and the Fraunhofer IAIS.

His expertise drives major large-scale research projects funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space. He serves as a co-coordinator of the 6G-life transfer hub to advance the digital sovereignty and practical transfer of future communication networks. Currently, he is also involved in the Next Generation AI Computing project and is a consortium member of the Robotics Institute Germany, a nationwide initiative to advance cutting-edge robotics.
